Who is this course for?
This course is designed for drivers who want to take the next step into wheel-to-wheel racing or for those who just want to experience driving a real race car. It’s ideal for beginners with no track experience, as well as drivers looking to pursue competition licensing through the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), or racers honing their skills.
What is included in the Pro Drive 2-Day Racing School?
The 2-Day Racing School at Portland International Raceway includes a classroom sessions on vehicle dynamics and the art of racing, a pace car led session with a professional instructor, multiple lapping sessions on PIR, personalized feedback after each session, and lap timing so you can track your progress throughout the two days. The school is conducted in a Spec Racer Ford Generation 2 race car provided by Pro Drive.
Do I need prior track experience?
No prior track experience is required. Our professional instructors will guide you through all aspects of racing, from fundamentals to advanced techniques.
Do you supply the safety equipment?
Yes. Pro Drive will provide a helmet, racing suit and gloves. You may bring your own safety equipment if desired. If you use your own helmet, a Snell SA 2020 or newer is required.
Are there any prerequisites?
Yes. Participants must be proficient in driving a manual transmission vehicle, as the Spec Racer Ford Generation 2 car is a 5-speed manual.
What are the height and weight requirements?
Typically, the height and weight limit for the Spec Racer Fords is 6’ 5” and 240 lbs., however it depends on body type. Please contact us with your measurements so we can confirm proper fitment before registration.
What happens if it rains?
The school runs rain or shine. Learning in variable conditions is an important part of becoming a skilled and adaptable race driver. If it rains, we put rain tires on the cars so you can continue driving safely and confidently in wet conditions.
What cars are used in the school?
Training is conducted in purpose-built Spec Racer Ford vehicles, which are widely used in SCCA competition and designed to provide a true racing experience. The Spec Racer Ford is a single seat, open cockpit, rear engine race car capable of pulling over 1.5 g’s.
Can I use my own race car?
Yes. Participants may use their own race-prepared vehicle, provided it meets all safety and class requirements. Please contact us in advance for approval and details. To register visit: Events near Portland | MotorsportReg.com
Where is the course held?
The school takes place at Portland International Raceway, Portland, Oregon. PIR is a premier road course offering a safe and professional racing environment.
Will I receive a racing license after the school?
Yes. This program is accredited by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). Successful completion of the school will allow you to apply for your SCCA Novice Permit and enter a SCCA regional race weekend. How often do incidents occur in the school?
We maintain an extremely low incident rate in our 2-Day Racing School. With strict safety protocols in place, our experienced team of instructors closely guides participants through every step of the program. The structured curriculum, controlled environment, and emphasis on awareness and communication are all designed to minimize risk while building driver confidence and skill.
In the event of an incident, am I responsible for damage to the Spec Racer Ford?
As a participant in the 2-Day Racing School, each student is responsible for any loss or damage to the vehicle resulting from driver error. All participants must sign a liability agreement prior to on track activity.
What driving opportunities do I have after completing the school?
Pro Drive offers multiple opportunities to get back on track. If your desire is to go racing, Pro Drive offers an arrive-and-drive program in Spec Racer Ford Gen3 cars at Portland International Raceway, as well as many well-known race tracks across the country.
